Online Spiritual Direction with Rev. Brent Levy

Abide Spiritual Direction
“I simply help people sit still long enough to see what is already there.”

— Theo in Theo of Golden by Allen Levi

An hour of holy listening, once a month—by phone or video, wherever you are. No agenda. No fixing. Just careful attention to your own life.

About

Spiritual direction is an ancient practice of holy listening—one hour, once a month, with a trained companion whose only job is to help you pay attention to your own life. We meet by phone or video, so it works wherever you are.

Think of it as the sacred work of becoming attentive and responsive to what’s holy within you, around you, and beyond you—to help you live with greater authenticity, meaning, and wholeness.

We talk about whatever is most alive in you: a decision you’re holding, a grief, a doubt, a dream, a season of dryness or abundance. Whatever you’re holding, there’s space for it.

How it differs

Not therapy

Therapy works with psychological patterns and mental health. Spiritual direction works with your interior life—longings, questions, what you experience as sacred. Many people do both.

Not coaching

Coaching moves you toward goals and measurable outcomes. Direction doesn't move you anywhere in particular. It attends to what is, not what should be.

Not pastoral care

Pastoral care shows up for the immediate—a crisis, a loss. Direction is the ongoing rhythm: a monthly, unhurried hour of paying attention together.

Not sure which of these you need? Send a note. We’ll figure it out together.

The best way to know if this fits is a short, no-pressure phone call.

What to expect

How we meet

By phone or video (Google Meet), whichever you prefer—so we can meet wherever you are. If you're near the Triangle in North Carolina, in person is an option, too.

One hour, once a month

We meet for about 60 minutes on a monthly rhythm. Enough space for something real to surface, without adding another weekly obligation.

Unhurried and confidential

Nothing is graded, fixed, or repeated elsewhere. Bring whatever is honest—including doubt, anger, or silence.

Start with a free call

We begin with a free 15-minute phone call so you can hear my voice, ask questions, and decide whether to continue. No pressure either way.

About Brent

Brent Levy

Brent Levy

I’m Brent—a trained spiritual director, a clergy member in the United Methodist Church, and a long-time companion to people navigating the wide terrain of faith, doubt, transition, and longing.

I have a fervent belief that everything is moving toward healing and that the sacred is present in the ordinary within, among, and beyond us. This journey shapes how I companion: without agenda, without judgment, and with a sacred spaciousness.

Whether you come from a tradition, are leaving one, or have never had one at all, you belong here, and I’d welcome the opportunity to come alongside you.

I trained as a spiritual director through The Healing Collective Center for Spiritual Formation, and I’m a member of Spiritual Directors International.

FAQ

What do the names Abide and Abide Together mean?+

The word 'abide' comes from the Greek μένω (meno), which means to stay, to remain, to dwell. Not strive. Not perform. Not prove yourself worthy. Just stay long enough to notice what's already here. Abide Together is the shared practice of that staying.

Do I have to be religious to come?+

No. Spiritual direction is for anyone paying attention to the interior life—whether you come from a tradition, are leaving one, or have never had one at all. Doubt, anger, and silence are welcome here.

How is this different from therapy or pastoral counseling?+

Therapy works with psychological patterns and mental health. Pastoral care responds to an immediate crisis. Spiritual direction is a slower, monthly rhythm of holy listening—attending to what is sacred, alive, or unresolved in your life.

Can we meet online, or by phone?+

Yes—most direction I offer is remote, by phone or video (Google Meet), so we can meet wherever you are. In person is available if you're in the Triangle region of NC.

Do you work with people outside North Carolina?+

Absolutely. Because we meet by phone or video, location isn't a barrier. I companion people across the country and beyond.

What if I've been wounded by the church?+

You're especially welcome. A lot of the people I sit with are somewhere in deconstruction, exile, or a slow re-approach to faith. There's no pressure to believe anything in particular, and no language you have to use. Anger is allowed.

How long do people stay in spiritual direction?+

There's no set length. Some come for a season around a particular threshold; others stay for years. We meet monthly, and you decide each season whether to continue.

What happens in a session?+

We meet for about an hour, typically once a month. You can choose phone, Google Meet, or in person if you're local—whatever feels most comfortable. Only the free 15-minute introductory call is phone-only.

What does it cost?+

Sessions are $75 month-to-month, with discounted seasons at $70 (three months) and $65 (six months). If cost is a barrier, a sliding scale is available—no one is turned away for money.

How do I start?+

The easiest first step is a free 15-minute phone call. Fill out the interest form or send a plain email and we'll find a time that works.

Is everything confidential?+

Yes. What you share in spiritual direction is held in confidence, always.
